Australia India Business Council (AIBC) QLD Chapter held a very successful networking event sponsored by Mahindra Australia, for its members and non-members from the Queensland business community on 4 June 2019 with the theme being “Unveiling of Mahindra Australia’s All New XUV500”.
Dr Nik Senapati, President of AIBC QLD Chapter, in welcoming all guests, spoke about how AIBC QLD Chapter has been growing in membership base during the past 6 months providing a platform for many bilateral trade and investment partnerships between QLD and India’slargest companies. Dr Senapati acknowledged Mahindra Australia as one of the new members of QLD Chapter and encouraged other members to use such opportunities towards growing their networks through AIBC for increasing value in their business transactions.
Mr Ankit Taneja, National Manager – Mahindra Australia, the key sponsor for this AIBC event, shared the growth story of the Mahindra Group that started with assembly of Willy’s jeepin India in 1945 and gradually built up global presence across 100 plus countries with interests in Automotive, Tractors, Farming Equipment, Aerospace, Defence, Information Technology, Real Estate to name a few industries. Key points arising from Mr Taneja’s presentation included:

Other Mahindra Australia senior management team members shared the technical aspects of the All New XUV500 launched at this high-profile networking event with AIBC QLD Chapter and also details of their sales, servicing and distribution networks across Australian cities and rural communities.
At the invitation of Mr Ankit Taneja, the Chief Guest, H.E. High Commissioner of India to Australia, Dr A.M. Gondane, unveiled the All New XUV500 in the presence of Mr Jim Varghese AM, National Chair of AIBC, Mrs Archana Singh, Honorary Consul General for QLD, Cr Ryan Murphy, Councilor for Chandler Ward and representing Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Mr Scott Phipps, Director of Trade Investment Queensland, besides a host of important dignitaries and business community leaders, including President of Federation of Indian Communities of QLD, President of GOPIO QLD, President of GOPIO Gold Coast and Chairman of Australian Chapter of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Brisbane Inc. and most importantly the AIBC members.
Cr Ryan Murphy, Councilor for Chandler Ward representing Lord Mayor of Brisbane
expressed his gratitude for the immense information gathered during the event about Mahindra Australia’s operations, with their headquarters based in Brisbane, and the diversified nature of the larger Mahindra Group globally. Cr Murphy expressed his keenness and on behalf of Lord Mayor openly welcomed many more Indian origin companies to set up offices in Brisbane to grow their operations throughout Australia. Cr Murphy was glad to note the increasing number of Indian migrants and student community in Brisbane. Cr Murphy also enjoyed a test drive of the All New XUV500 and the Black Edition Dual Cab on display at the event.
Mr Jim Varghese AM, National Chairman of AIBC acknowledged the growing number of Indian businesses setting up operations across Australia with an increasing amount of interactions between AIBC QLD business community. Mr Varghese thanked the QLD Chapter Executive Committee for their ongoing hard work towards growing AIBC amongst the larger business community to develop business partnerships between QLD and India. Mr Varghese shared with the audience an update of the Wadhwa Committee report on Australia India Strategy to 2035 being finalized by the Indian Government which is expected to be released in next few months.
The Chief Guest for the event, H.E. High Commissioner of India to Australia, Dr A.M. Gondane congratulated Mahindra Australia and AIBC for the fantastic event of Unveiling of the All New XUV500 in Brisbane and the entire Australian market. Dr Gondane spoke extensively about the growth story of Mahindra Group not just in India but also Australia, many other developed and developing countries globally where they have established a very high reputable brand name in each area of Automotive/Farm Sectors, Information Technology, Defence, Aerospace amongst other industries to name a few. Dr Gondane encouraged Australian businesses to actively engage with opportunities that are available in the Indian economy and welcomed the increasing number of small, medium and large Indian businesses that are engaging with the Australian economy.
Dr Gondane thanked Mahadevan Shankar, Executive Committee member of AIBC QLD Chapter for the invitation and encouraged the QLD business community to take up thechallenge to engage with Mahindra Australia that’s contributing significantly to the Indianeconomy growing rapidly.
The Q&A session between the audience and team Mahindra Australia attracted manyinteresting queries about Mahindra Australia’s operations and future growth plans across thecountry.
Mr Rajesh Gupta, Treasurer of AIBC QLD Chapter did the business card draw with
Mrs Archana Singh pulling out the lucky winner’s card being Ms Christine Hall of Westpac. The card draw prize was a cricket bat personally autographed by Mr Matthew Hayden AM, Brand Ambassador for Mahindra Australia. Although Mr Hayden could not attend the event due to his Cricket World Cup duties, he sent his best wishes and appreciation to AIBC QLD Chapter and the users of the All New XUV500.
