INVITATION

added:09/05/13
AIBC NSW and Fragomen are pleased to invite members and friends to a briefing and networking event to discuss "Important changes to the Australian temporary work visa program and restrictions to business visitors".

The briefing will include:

  • 23 March 2013 changes to the structure of the visitor visa program including the introduction of the short stay activity visa (subclass 400) and new restrictions to business visitors and allowable activities.  This is particularly important for international organisations that frequently host short term staff from their overseas operations.
  • Reforms to the 457 program due to come into effect on 1 July 2013.  These measures will mean that businesses will face closer scrutiny before being permitted to sponsor an employee from overseas.
  • The introduction of strict liability employer sanctions if a business employs a person without the appropriate permission to work.
  • Greater monitoring of employers by the Fair Work Ombudsman and Fair Work Inspectors to ensure compliance with 457 visa conditions and sponsorship obligations.

The briefing will outline these changes, the practical implications for your business and give you the opportunity to ask questions.
