Harish Rao is the President in Victoria and the National Vice Chairman of the Australia India Business Council. His career began in chartered accounting in the area of business services & tax and then moved to investment banking where he was involved with capital raisings for companies in China. He was then involved in various businesses dealing with India and hence developed a significant understanding of the Indian business culture and business norms. In the year 2000 with the introduction of the GST in Australia , Harish set up his own back office processing centre in Chennai, India to service accountants in Australia. This continued for 2 years, when it was integrated into the back office of Sundaram Business Services, a division of the US$1billion Sundaram Finance group. Harish is the now Head of the Asia Pacific region of Sundaram Finance.
Stephen Manallack is an award winning public relations consultant, professional speaker and author. In 1980 he founded Manallack Public Relations, which specializes in corporate communication and India business. Stephen consults in leadership, building a communicating culture, creative communication and developing business relationships in India. He is Vice President of the Australia India Business Council – Vic (AIBC – Vic) a member of the committee of management of the AIBC and a columnist for India’s largest business website, www.domain-b.com In early 2007 he led one of Australia’s largest business missions to India with the Australian Trade Minister. Stephen’s career began as a journalist with the West Australian newspaper before moving to international affairs and industrial relations. He has also lectured in Public Relations at RMIT University and ‘crisis communication’ at the National Management Education Centre. Stephen’s book, You Can Communicate, was published by Pearson Education in 2002. He has contributed to many newspapers and magazines, including The Age, The Hindu and the British Medical Journal. His interests include golf, reading, philosophy and South Asia.
Arvind joined Corrs Chambers Westgarth, one of Australia’s leading commercial law firms, in 2005 and has been a member of Corrs’ technology law practice for 2 years. Arvind holds a bachelor of business systems and bachelor of laws (honours) degrees from Monash University. Arvind has advised numerous clients on the corporate and commercial aspects of IT and technology contracting, protection of intellectual property rights, internet law, and telecommunications law. In particular, Arvind has advised clients on systems integration and outsourcing agreements, electronic commerce issues, and dispute resolution and litigation to enforce IT rights. Arvind is also plays a major role in the firm’s India Practice Group, which focuses on assisting Australian and Indian companies in engaging in cross border business. Arvind travels to India regularly, most recently as part of a delegation with the Australia Asia Young Leaders Program, which was supported by DFAT and met with key figures in the business and government sectors.
Mr Ravi Bhatia is the CEO of Primus Australia, one of the largest broadband and telecommunications companies in Australia. He was previously the President of Primus’ US operations and of Lingo Inc., a leader in broadband telephony space. Ravi was the founding CEO of Primus Australia from its inception in 1995 and developed the company into a highly successful, facilities based carrier. He has also held the position of Chairman of Access Providers Ltd., a pioneer and a leader in wireless broadband services in Australia. He has a thorough understanding of all key aspects of telecommunications and technology business, including technology, sales and marketing, systems and people management gained through 35 years of international experience in the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia. Ravi is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from IIT, New Delhi. Ravi is married to Madhu and they have two sons: the elder is a Telco/IT executive and the younger is in his first year commerce undergraduate student at the Melbourne University. Ravi has interest in modern global politics, cricket, Aussie Rules and American Football. He also loves restoring classic motor cars.
James Breheny is Managing Director of the Marketing Consultancy business ‘Spider Marketing Network’ that provides a broad range of professional marketing based business services through an experienced network of consultants and contractors. James has provided strategic marketing advice to a number of key businesses in a range of industries including Tourism Queensland, Victoria Electricity, Cricket Victoria, Nylex, Foster’s Group, Sky City Casino, Sonoco Packaging, Hoshizaki Lancer, Taverner Hotel Group and South Pacific Distillery Fiji. James has an extensive Marketing career in senior management roles with ‘blue chip’ companies including Foster’s Group and Crown Casino covering strategic marketing and all aspects of in-field execution, including Brand management of major national beer brands such as Carlton Draught and Crown Lager. He has significant experience and operational knowledge of market conditions in all States of Australia, New Zealand, Indian sub continent and the South Pacific. Spider Marketing provides marketing support to Indian companies exploring the Australian market place for business opportunities as well as Australian companies wishing to open export markets in the Indian sub continent.
Stewart Gault is an active member of the Australia India Business Council and sits on the Victorian management committee. In his most recent his role as Director of Operations at Olympus Funds Management, Stewart played a major role in the establishment and daily operations of India Equities Fund Ltd - Australia's first dedicated Indian investment fund on the ASX. This experience has given Stewart an extensive knowledge of Indian financial markets and a broad professional network among many of India's leading financial institutions. Prior to joining Olympus, Stewart held roles as a research analyst at Lonsec and senior consultant at a boutique consulting firm in Tokyo. Stewart is an MBA graduate from the Melbourne Business School and holds a Bachelor of Engineering. He is currently studying for level two of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program.
Phil Honeywood, was first elected to State Parliament in 1988, aged 28 as the Liberal State Member for Warrandyte. He served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Ethnic Affairs, Jeff Kennett, from 1992 to 1996. From 1996 to 1999 he was Minister for Tertiary Education and Training and Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs. From 1999 to 2002 he was Shadow Minister for Education and from 2001 to 2002 he was Shadow Minister for Tertiary Education and Training. From August 2002 to December 2002 he was Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs. In addition, he was Deputy Leader of the Opposition since August 2002 and from December 2002 he was Shadow Minister for Industry, Employment and Major Projects & from January 2004 he was Shadow Minister for Environment until his retirement from politics in March 2006. Phil now works as the Business Development Manager for Cambridge International College and heads the AIBC’s Education Chapter.
Stephen leads the firm’s Corporate Advisory team. The team has experience across all industry groups but with an emphasis on energy and resources, transport and logistics, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and health and allied services. Stephen practices primarily in corporate and financial services law, trade practices, insolvency and reconstruction and regulatory compliance and enforcement. Stephen’s clients include listed public companies, private corporations, business associations, not for profit organisations, accountants and other professional advisers, insolvency practitioners and private clients. Stephen is a regular presenter at seminars and training sessions and a contributor of articles on a variety of topics in his fields of practice. He lectures at Melbourne University in the Law School’s Graduate Program on the topic “Shareholders’ Rights and Remedies”. Apart from his involvement in the AIBC, Stephen is a member and former Chair of the Corporations Committee and a member of the Insolvency and Reconstruction Committee, Business Law Section, Law Council of Australia. He is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Family Business Australia. Cornwall Stodart is a member of ALFA International, a global network of independent law firms. Through this association, Cornwall Stodart can provide legal representation in India and in particular in New Dehli, Bangalore, Chennai, Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
